Sort of like an extended and arty Tales From The Crypt, or not. I’m quite sure this film was the inspiration for With A Friend Like Harry. It plays the psychological aspect very crisply. The film either suffers from a slight excess of non-linearity viz. flashbacks, or I had too much too drink. The technique of using Tour De France radio coverage for atmosphere was quite similar to the boxing match in Lasse Halstrom’s My Life As A Dog (1987). Tempting to speculate but probably no influence on the use of The Tour in Amelie. Good film. Would definitely rent it. Would not buy it just yet, as long as Criterion is still releasing new titles.
