Roger Ebert says: "Legendary director Ernst Lubitsch’s masterful touch is in full flower in Trouble in Paradise, a pinnacle of the sophisticated romantic comedy, loaded with sparkling dialogue, witty innuendo, and elegant comic invention."

True, but...

It’s fast-paced. Well-written. Some great lines. Great acting. And a hint of glorious art-deco for a backdrop (although it’s all indoors in sets, not real cinema-documentary-type bonus like you get with other films of that time (Rene Claire, etc)).

Bottom line is I just tended not to care that much about the characters. For reasons we could probably explore.
