Sunrise (1927)

FW Murnau

Wow. We’ve come along way baby—since this film was made. At the risk of being struck by lightning, I’m just going to come out and say it. This film does little for me. I can wholly recommend it if you want to watch for film historical purposes and/or comparing with other films (L’Atalante, only seven years later). I suppose there is some emotional depth and intensity to the story here. But again. Wow. It’s a lot to endure for that.

Okay, well. From the trolley scene on it gets a bit cooler. That trolley in the middle of nowhere. Wow. A trolley straight from the farm to the city. Cool. Guy needs a shave. Wow, am I blogging? What’s happening? Love this movie in the city.

“Yeah, I know I was going to kill you. Here, have a sandwich.”

Drink: schnapps (no reason—and every reason; it’s just that the girl’s face makes me think of schnapps)
