Cons: screenplay was disorganized. enough dangling plot elements to make one raise an eyebrow or two or at least smirk. Some of the characters actions (the narrative itself and/or screenplay) seemed either implausible or at least did not seem to flow properly from the reality on the screen. Tonal shifts were often too abrupt and/or frequent, thus making it difficult to remain within the story. There is a point when a film does something that may leave even the most willing and patient viewer no choice but to eject himself from the cockpit. That happened to me during this film. I point out each instance because it’s not important, but I would just like to mention the problem so we can all learn.

Pros: her silver tooth. The tear rolling down the face of the child prodigy (if you like tears on the cheeks of accordian players, there's a Clifton Chenier for that; it's not this clip, it's from a different show, but there is one from 1983, which i'll link if i ever can). Other beautiful details only seen in this film. I admit I have not seen a better film about gypsies living in Romania to this date, so for the sheer learning experience of it, I cannot offer a replacement. However, there are many other films which will take you into cultures you haven’t seen before. For rural Brazil, we have Andrucha Waddington’s Me You Them, and then for rural Chinese culture, we have the films of Jia Zhangke, which are not only revelations, but filmic masterworks by any objective standard.
