Very interesting film. Compelling. So much to talk about. I will talk about none of it. If you like Renoir, you will like this film. The only criticism, and I’m not even sure if this is a fair one, is that there is so much frequent tonal shifting that it almost becomes difficult to play along. When you see the film, you’ll understand what I mean. And if you are willing to play along, the film will certainly give you much pleasure—high pleasure. But there is a small chance, you could react by not being in the mood, and get a little annoyed. But if you love Renoir fan, then no doubt, you should see this film. Shares a few plot elements with the Buñuel version, but is so different that the seeing of the one hardly informs the seeing of the other at all.
