Autumn Spring (2001)

A film about people and relationships (as opposed to about filmmaking itself, action, etc). Closest thing I can think of is Edward Yang’s Yi-Yi, but it’s about half as long and with half as many characters. It’s kind of like Yi, just one. It’s a good story. It’s not always focused and it cheats a little to get where it needs to go (not talking so much about plot, but in terms of character motivation). But if you’re willing to forgive and make allowances, you can get a pearl or two from this film. If you like this film, you might also like Me, You, Them as much or more. Similar emotional intensity, but more concerted effort in cinematography.

Note: the further away I get from this film, the more positive I feel about it.
