Beloved New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter died yesterday after collapsing on the field during a game at Chicago's US Cellular Field. Jeter, 36, had suffered from hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, a genetic condition which can result in untimely sudden death. Jeter was rushed to a nearby hospital but he could not be resuscitated. A memorial service will be held at Saint Anne's Episcopal Church, Bronx, New York. At the time Jeter collapsed, the Yankees were leading the White Sox 4-2.
