We did not use such a command in Virginia. 

But you can still tell when people last logged in to stuff (like friendster, etc.).

But you know what would be more interesting, since so much of what you’re saying is sort of empirical cultural "duh"?  Writing something about the experience of college social life in the 80s/90s but not specifying the differences bw technologies.  I think just writing about an experience that necessarily took place w/o cellphones or the internets will highlight itself.
